Noxi Finds Herself Between the Lines

There’s something uniquely disorientating about starting again. A new city, new people, new routines — everything is exciting, but nothing quite feels like home yet. For London-based artist, producer and DJ Noxi, that feeling became the starting point for her latest single 'Between the Lines'.

Released on 14 August, the track is the first taste of Noxi’s upcoming EP, a project exploring identity, belonging and what “home” actually means when you’ve spent your life moving between countries and cultures.

Written about Noxi’s own move to London to pursue music, Between the Lines captures that strange emotional middle ground of knowing you’ve made the right decision while still questioning everything about it. There’s excitement in starting from scratch, but also the uncomfortable realisation that leaving somewhere behind can change how you see yourself.

That tension is built directly into the production. Jungle-inspired drums and shifting rhythms give the track an unsettled energy, while distorted London Underground announcements and field recordings place it firmly within the city. It feels less like a song about London and more like a snapshot of experiencing it for the first time — the noise, movement and sensory overload all happening at once.

Against that restless backdrop, Noxi keeps things surprisingly understated. Her conversational vocals, pensive hums and playful singing create moments of calm amongst the chaos. The result is a track that never settles completely, reflecting the uncertainty at the heart of its subject matter while still carrying an unmistakable sense of optimism.

It’s a fitting introduction to an artist whose own musical identity has been shaped by movement. Noxi describes her sound as “pop-adjacent” electronic music, pulling from a range of influences while exploring themes of identity, belonging and the meaning of home. Alongside her own project, she works as a producer and recording engineer and has spent more than a decade DJing.

There’s also something refreshing about how self-contained the project is. Noxi wrote, produced, engineered and mixed Between the Lines herself, giving the track a consistency that runs from its lyrics through to its smallest production details. The influence of artists such as Lily Allen, PinkPantheress, FKA twigs and Lorde can be felt around the edges, but the track never feels like it’s trying to imitate any of them.

Instead, Between the Lines feels like an artist figuring things out in real time.

Moving to a city you’ve romanticised from afar can be very different from actually living there. The excitement of finally being where you wanted to be exists alongside homesickness, uncertainty and the pressure to make the decision worthwhile. Noxi captures that contradiction without trying to resolve it.

As she puts it, moving to London meant pursuing the life she had always wanted, while simultaneously destabilising her sense of identity. Between the Lines lives in that contradiction — the exhilaration and turmoil, the chaos and hope, all happening at the same time.

And perhaps that’s what makes the track interesting. It isn’t really about arriving somewhere. It’s about the period after you arrive, when you’re still working out who you’re supposed to be.

For Noxi, that process has become music.
