Worricka returns with ‘Love Is Alone’ a bold and emotionally rich new single that weaves together elements of soul, jazz, pop and electronic production. Centred around Worricka’s strikingly unique vocals, the track dives deep into the ache of heartbreak, delivered with honesty and flair. It’s a powerful glimpse into an artist unafraid to tell their truth — and there’s plenty more behind the music.
We caught up with Worricka to talk about the new release, the creative process and what’s coming next…

Where did your vision start and how did it progress?
It started at around 7 years old when I first sang ‘Sing In The Rain’ after seeing the film on TV. I starting singing it and remember thinking ‘I can sing jazz’ but I remember distinctly thinking I sounded like a woman, not a man. Then I sang through childhood, starting writing my own songs at 13 and 23 years later I’m still writing them. My vision is to try to evoke the same feelings that my favourite artists and songs give me. I’m firmly rooted in jazz/soul wrapped up in RnB and lyrically it’s mostly autobiographical but with elements of fantasy. Also, I always try to keep the sound a little spooky
Describe your sound in 3 words?
Soulful spooky jazzy
Tell us about your latest single ‘Love Is Alone’ what was the inspiration behind it?
The inspiration behind it is a long drawn out heartbreak that was sort of ruining my life at the time. It’s the idea that when you fall out of love with someone, where does that love go? I think it’s lying dormant in a state of ku until the next person comes along and taps into it, but before that your love is alone
Is there a certain place where you feel the most creative?
I love being on stage. I did many shows Upstairs @ Ronnie Scott’s for years and that venue always has such magic in the room. The audience there are turning up for that kind of music so it’s always an amazing vibe. At the moment I improvise over different songs everyday to keep me creative

We’re all about new music discovery– who is an artist that you think everybody should be listening to right now?
Yazmin Lacey
What do you like to do for fun outside of working on music?
I go out a lot with friends in London. I need to develop more hobbies haha
How do you approach writing lyrics and what themes do you like to
explore?
For about the last 10 years most of my lyrics come out on the spot over music, it’s quite random, and then they end up forming the subject matter of the song. Usually the songs are about heartbreak, overcoming things, positive affirmations and sometimes just fun themes

What do you hope listeners take away from your music?
If they get really into I want them to be wondering the story behind the song
Who or what has been your biggest inspiration in your career so far and why?
Amy Winehouse released her album Frank when I was 13 and it will forever shape the artist I am and want to be. I’ve heard a lot of singers say the same. I was in a writing session years ago and the writer said that ‘Amy changed the way people sing’ and I happen to agree completely. I think Tony Bennet said she was the best jazz singer he has ever heard and he sung with a lot of the the greats
What’s next?
‘Mesmerised’ - my duet with Boy George comes out on the 24th July
