In Conversation: KiLLOWEN

KiLLOWEN, the electrifying sensation from West London's garage music scene, is now launching his debut EP, titled "Pub Therapy." This EP comes on the heels of KiLLOWEN's recent music releases, including tracks such as "One Thing," "Snowfall Freestyle," the double single "2GEVA/Smile," and his 2023 hit song, "Sober." "Sober" alone has amassed over 4 million plays on Spotify, garnered 20 million views on TikTok, and reached the #20 spot on the Top 50 UK Viral chart. These previous works establish the foundation for KiLLOWEN's EP, showcasing his diverse musical talent that effortlessly combines elements of UK Garage, Rap, Dance, and Soul.

KiLLOWEN is a highly motivated artist who has painstakingly built his music career from the ground up. He started playing his first instrument at the age of 8, ventured into music production at 13, and began writing at 14. In less than a decade, KiLLOWEN has continually pushed the boundaries of his craft and collaborated with an impressive roster of artists, including p-rallel, Arlo Parks, Finn Foxell, and more. The release of "One Thing" is a testament to his rising star, and with an impressive monthly listenership of over 286k on Spotify, KiLLOWEN's dedicated fan base continues to expand with each new release. Given his current trajectory, it's almost certain that 2023 will witness KiLLOWEN's transition from a promising newcomer to a beloved fan favorite and a commanding superstar.

Where did the vision start and how did it progress?

I feel like the vision started from when I was a kid. I always knew I wanted to be something more than just another person. Around 13 I figured out I could make my own music and from then it was a wrap. I knew I was gonna use music to change the world, somehow, some way. I’ve been doing it basically everyday since and I guess I’m getting a little closer haha.

Describe your sound in three words?

Introspective, Emotive, Uplifting

Tell us about your debut EP ‘Pub Therapy’. Could you elaborate on the process and the inspirations that fueled your writing?

Pub Therapy is my debut project. It’s basically a culmination of my life to this point. Exploring the fact that everyone has their own vice, everyone messes stuff up, everyone’s unhealthy in some ways. And that’s ok. We’re all just figuring it out. It all sparked from me going to the pub with my mates. We wouldn’t really talk about anything of value until we were drunk. We would say “who needs therapy when you’ve got the pub”. Then came “Pub Therapy”.

Is there a certain place where you feel the most creative?

Probably my bedroom. But I can get inspired anywhere.

We’re all about new music discovery – who is an artist that you think everybody should be listening to right now?

Humble The Great.

What’s one thing you’ve learnt throughout your music journey that you think every artist should know?

Being you is always enough.

What's been a highlight in your work so far?

Seeing my music reach other people. Ever since gaining some sort of fan base I get a lot of messages from people telling me how much my music has helped them. That’s the whole reason I started, so I love when that happens.

How do you approach writing lyrics and what themes do you like to explore?

I kinda just do it. I try to be an open book. Anything can inspire me to write a song. This project is based off the concept of pub therapy. So drinking & pain got me through a lot of the songs haha. But that’s not all there is to life.

What do you hope listeners take away from your music?

That they’re not alone. That whatever they’re doing is okay as long as they’re trying. That it’ll all make sense one day.

What can we expect from you next?

More bangers! More shows. More moments. More growth
